The Acting Upper West Regional Head of the Environmental Protection Agency Emmanuel Lignule has warn farmers against the too must used of pesticides on farmlands.
According to him, these chemicals kills the organism that will pollinate or allow water to sink into the soil, sustain adequate moisture in the crops.
The EPA Regional head urge farmers to wear protective cloths when spaying these pesticides. Adding that, farmer must desist from open disposal of pesticides containers after use. This he said if not properly done may lead to skin diseases food and water poisoning. He suggest burial of these empty chemical containers.
Emmanuel further indicated, one must meet some minimum requirements to earn a licence from the EPA. Nothing that, the registration to acquire a licence is done at the head office.
Emmanuel Lignule said pesticides Producers, Retailers or Distributors must register with EPA for reqiured licensing to avoid being forced to comply with the law or even risks losing their business.
